    Samuel (Sam) John Yost

Our beloved dad, Samuel (Sam) John Yost, passed away peacefully from this earth on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2019, lovingly surrounded by his children.

He was born to Robert and Ruth Williams Yost on May 15, 1951, in Kingfisher.

Sam was one of six children and grew up on the family farm in Omega. Many of his younger years were spent helping his dad with harvest and taking care of the farm.

After graduating from Lomega High School in 1969, he attended Sayre Junior College and received his associates degree in electronics.

Sam moved to New York and started a career in the seismic industry.

He returned home and married Mary Jean Baustert on April 30, 1976.

In the following years, that union welcomed five children: Angela Marie, Gloria Ann, Robert Nicholas, Jessica Jean, and Benjamin John.

While his children were very young, Sam operated Yost Electric with his brother Tom.

His love for travel and the open road then led him to a career in truck driving both near and far for Pioneer Pipe and Louis Dreyfus.

He knew the highways and byways like the back of his hand and always had an abundance of stories from his travels, especially while driving alongside his best friend Richard (Weed) Cofer. He could tell you the best way to get to anywhere you needed to go, or better yet, show you on his trusty Rand McNally atlas.

After raising his children, Sam returned to the seismic field as a project manager for Lee Geophysical working with his lifelong friend Andy Lee in south Texas.

Never fully admitting to retirement, he spent his later years helping his children run Sunrise Cafe, rebuilding the family homestead, and answering numerous questions about plumbing, electrical, mechanics or anything else his children needed.

He always had a solution to any problem.

Sam was a genuine person who never hesitated to lend a hand, tell a good story, or a funny joke. He never met a stranger and would shoot the breeze with anyone.

His charismatic personality, quick wit and teasing ways left everyone with a smile on their face. Sam loved being outdoors and spent many nights by his truck just listening to music and enjoying a cold beer or having long talks with his kids.

He led a selfless life and his greatest joy was standing by, watching his children and grandchildren be together.

Sam is survived by his children and their spouses:  Angela and Joe Rose of Yukon, Gloria Yost and fiancé Cory Hawk of Oklahoma City, Bobby and Demea Yost of Omega, Jessica and Hunter Robinson of Okarche, and Ben and Lacey Yost of Oklahoma City; his grandchildren, Haiden, Eli, Kyla, Cody, Kaycee, Colten, Jude, and Baby Yost due anytime.

He is also survived by two sisters Julie Ramer of Omega and Kathy Vogt of Okarche and numerous nieces and nephews.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, sister Janie, and brothers Tom and Charlie.

While we love and will greatly miss our Dad, we take much comfort and peace knowing he is rejoicing with the Lord and his loved ones.

Memorial services will be held at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22, and a mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 23.
