Wanda Claunch
Wanda Claunch was born on a farm in Marshall on Sept. 7 1937, to Charles “Chod” and Vivian Larsen Kelly.
She passed away Thursday, July 9, 2020, at Cimarron Nursing Center. She was 82.
Wanda was raised in Dover where she graduated high school.
She worked as a nurse aide at Kingfisher Memorial Hospital for many years.
In November 1976 she married Robert Claunch and she was finally able to quit work and enjoy life.
Wanda enjoyed writing the “Dover Doin’s” for many years. She loved Dover and stayed active in the community until her health would no longer allow her to do so.
She loved her church family at the Dover Christian Church and really missed attending services with family and friends once she could no longer go.
Even though her health would no longer allow her to attend, she remained a loyal “Doverite” as she called herself and would often say it was the biggest little town in Oklahoma.
She said one of her greatest achievements was going back to school and graduating while raising her children.
Wanda is survived byher five children, Kelly Mayes and wife Sherri of Chesapeake, Va., Karla Ludwig and husband John of Okarche, Tara Kinsel and husband Jerry of Pinetop, Ariz., Bret Mayes and wife Sandi of Dover, and Brad Mayes and wife Jana of Cashion; 14 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; one sister, Debi Trout and husband Keith of Dover; three stepsisters, Dona Kay Terrell and husband Melvin of Dover, Betty Edwards and husband Tom of Michigan, and Ruthie Bilderback of Guthrie.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, stepfather Donald Vincent, brother Jimmy Lars Kelly, precious great-grandson Luke Robert Yarrow and brother-in-law James Bilderback.
Memorials may be made to Banner Cemetery Association or the Dover Christian Church.
Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, July 13, at Sanders Funeral Service in Kingfisher.
