East’s first homer of the season came during the bottom of the first inning against Okarche. The Lady Warriors took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, but East gave KHS a 2-1 lead it wouldn’t lose in what turned into a 7-1 victory. East finished the game 2 for 3 with 4 RBIs and two runs scored. KHS had 10 hits overall. Lily Voth, the winning pitcher, led the way with three hits while Liliana Garramone also went 2 for 3. Reese Roof collected a pair of hits as well. Voth pitched all five innings and gave up six hits while striking out three. KHS opened the tournament earlier Thursday with a 31-3 win against Watonga in a three-inning run rule. The Lady Jackets had 13 hits, walked 12 times and were hit by pitches 10 times. Kingfisher played one more pool game Friday (after press time) against Putnam City before wrapping up the tournament Saturday. [Photos by Russell Stitt/www. stitt.smugmug.com]

Football teams in Oklahoma could hold their first practices of the season and Kingfisher wasted little time as the Yellowjackets took the field at 7 a.m. for an hour of conditioning before returning at 3:30 p.m. for a more traditional practice. The two-a-days were to continue through Wednesday before the team began practicing after school on Thursday, the first day of classes for students. On Friday, the team will be able to dress in pads and have a full-contact practice for the first time. The Jackets will hold their “Friday Night Lights” practice at 6:30 p.m. at the high school football field. The public is invited to attend as the Kingfisher Touchdown Club will be serving free hot dogs and water.
