John Parmlee Sain, Sr. was born in Kingfisher, the “Buckle of the Wheat Belt,” Aug. 9, 1933.

His parents, Jay Wright Sain and Helen Bethune (Wallace) Sain, raised John and his siblings, Francis, Richard, Mary Jo and Jeanette, on a cattle and dairy farm that became the heart and soul of the family.

John was raised with a farm spirit and work ethic that would follow him his entire life.

He attended the University of Oklahoma from 1952-1957 and played football under Bud Wilkinson.

This time defined his life for the decades following.

He married “the love of his life,” Dennis Carol Wood while at OU and after graduation they moved to Florida where he began his life of coaching and teaching.

John and Carol had three children: John, Jr.(Penny), Pamela (Richard) and Jaylene (Carl).

He went on to have an exciting time opening three men’s clothing stores, working in oil and gas and traveling the country.

He moved to Acapulco, Mexico, and spent 10 wonderful years there with family and friends.

Upon returning to the United States, he started a successful lawn company until his retirement.

John’s love of OU football became stronger through the years.

He was incredibly proud of his grandchildren, Melissa, Autumn, Jamie and Henry, who all followed in his footsteps and graduated from OU. His eldest grandson, Jay, blessed him with three beautiful great-grandchildren: Joslynn, Jazmine, and Jordan.

John will be greatly missed by his family and all who knew him. His nieces and nephews, Marcy, Sheila, Cindy, Terri and Clay, Judy and Jim, and their children will always hold Uncle John close to their heart.

A private family burial will take place in Kingfisher.
