It’s not always easy to pull the positive from a 54-6 defeat.

Cashion’s Lynn Shackelford did what he could after falling to Pawhuska by that margin in last Friday’s home opener.

“I thought our defense did a really good job against the run,” said head coach Lynn Shackelford as his squad dropped to 0-2 on the season.

Unfortunately for the Wildcats, Pawhuska can throw the ball around the field.

The Huskies scored the game’s first 54 points….40 of that in the first half.

All but one of the visitors’ seven touchdowns came through the air.

Canyon Hindman threw for 5 TDs and ran for another as Pawhuska racked up 450 yards of total offense.

A bulk of that - 336 yards - was the passing game.

“We need for our secondary to make the same kind of improvement this week that we saw in our run defense last week,” Shackelford said.

Cashion’s offense wasn’t able to provide much relief.

The Wildcats ran for 82 yards and threw for 108 more.

“We need to find our identity on that side of the ball,” Shackelford said.

Cashion had the same number of offensive snaps as the Huskies - 55 - but produced significantly fewer yards.

Quarterback Ethan Waswo was 10 of 30 passing for 108 yards.

Maxx Higdon had four catches for 73 yards and Drew Westerhoff another five for 33 yards.

Ryker Johnson, who broke free for a 35-yard TD run in the fourth quarter, led Cashion with 41 yards on six carries on the ground.

Westerhoff had 27 yards on his four attempts.

The defense was led by Timmy Jones’ eight tackles while Aidan Riordan added seven.

The Wildcats continue the search for their first win Friday when they host Thomas.

The Terriers will enter with a 1-1 record. They opened in Week 0 with a 1912 victory against Watonga and lost 39-14 to Alva last week.
