A big second quarter and a double-double by Carson Gump helped Cashion rediscover its winning ways.

The Wildcats put an end to a six-game losing streak last Friday with a 54-49 victory at home over Watonga.

Cashion then backed it up Monday with a 59-40 victory at Crescent.

Against Watonga, Cashion led by two points after a quarter, then outscored the visitors 19-9 in the second.

Watonga cut into the deficit in the second half, but never closed it.

One area that’s plagued the undersized Wildcats during the losing streak was rebounding.

Gump provided 14 of them to go with his 10 points.

Nine of Gump’s rebounds came on the defensive end and Cashion out-boarded Watonga 30-29 overall.

The Wildcats were led in scoring by Nathan Nabavi’s 16 points. Anthony Wilburn added 11.

Cashion took a 21-15 halftime lead against Crescent, then broke the game open with a 24-12 burst in the third quarter.

Wilburn and Nabavi combined for seven of Cashion’s 10 3-pointers.

Wilburn made four and led all scorers with 18.

Nabavi scored 13. Gump had another big rebounding night as he pulled down 12 to go with his five points. Drake Woody chipped in nine points.

The victories put Cashion at 9-11 on the season.

Lady Wildcats still in hunt for conference title

Cashion’s defense shut down Watonga and Crescent much of the night to keep its conference title hopes alive.

The Lady Wildcats gave up just 15 points through three quarters to boost their way to a 41-31 home win against Watonga on Friday.

They came back to beat Crescent 73-37 Monday on the road.

Cashion is now 15-5 overall and 4-1 in the Three Rivers Conference with one game remaining (against Okarche Tuesday night after press time).

If Cashion can win and if Fairview loses one of its final two conference games, the Lady Wildcats can lay claim to the regular season championship.

Watonga never got going offensively, which allowed Cashion to steadily pull away.

It was an eight point game after a quarter and Cashion led 30-13 by halftime.

Cashion then led by 21 after three quarters.

Megan Shafer led her team with 16 points.

Reese Williams added six. The Lady Wildcats piled the points on early at Crescent and led 23-10 after a quarter and 53-17 by halftime.

Shafer was again a force with a game-high 23 points.

Lauren Jenkins poured in another 19 while Abby Hobgood scored 10.
