Eagles sweep Chisholm Monday
Hennessey is riding a three-game win streak into the playoffs after closing off its regular season with victories on Friday and Monday.
The latter spoiled Chisholm’s “senior night” festivities as the Lady Eagles used a big third quarter to grab a 50-38 road win.
The Lady Eagles found themselves trailing 19-16 at halftime, but Katie Kennedy came alive in the second half.
Held to three points in the first half, Kennedy erupted for 16 in the second.
That included 10 points in the third as the Lady Eagles took command with an 18-6 run.
Kennedy ended her night with 19.
Emma Copeland had eight of her 10 points in the second half.
Ally Painter kept the Lady Eagles afloat in the first half with eight of her 10 points.
After a sluggish first half Friday, the Lady Eagles came alive to defeat Blackwell 49-27 at the Eagle Event Center.
Both teams struggled to score in a first half that saw Hennessey lead 17-7.
Both teams picked it up in the second half, but the Lady Eagles did more of it, outscoring Blackwell 17-10 in the third.
Five different Lady Eagles scored in that quarter.
Kennedy led all scorers with 17. She had 12 after halftime.
Clare Munroe and Painter scored eight apiece.
The Lady Eagles head into the playoffs with a 17-8 record when they host the same Blackwell team in a Class 3A district championship on Friday.
Richardson, Copeland lead Eagles in high-scoring win
There was a major scoring battle taking place Monday between Hennessey’s Camdyn Richardson and Chisholm’s Cooper Westfahl.
Richardson won that battle, got a ton of help from a freshman teammate and the Eagles finished up their regular season on a positive note.
Richardson scored 29 points as the Eagles knocked off Chisholm 78-59 on the road.
Westfahl started hot for the home team as he nailed two treys and scored eight points as the Longhorns blazed to a 23-14 lead.
The Eagles started to warm up in the second.
Richardson netted eight in the quarter, but it was Hagen Copeland who lit it up for 11 points and helped get Hennessey within two a the half.
Richardson took over in the third.
The senior guard made three of his four 3-pointers and scored 18 points in the frame.
Hennessey’s deficit turned into an 11-point lead as it outscored Chisholm 23-10.
It was back to Copeland in the fourth as he scored eight points to finish off the Longhorns and finish his night with 24.
Westfahl scored 27 for the Longhorns.
The Eagles also got eight points from Beau Vinson.
In a Class 3A district championship preview, the Eagles were handed a 63-46 loss at home last Friday by Blackwell.
The Maroons had a solid second half after trailing by one at halftime.
They claimed a five-point lead entering the fourth, then closed with a 20-8 run.
Nik Flying Out scored 15 of his 20 points in that second half for the Maroons.
Richardson paced the Eagles with 24.
He had 16 points by halftime, then added two treys in the third quarter.
However, the Maroons held the senior without a field goal in the fourth.
Hennessey is now 11-13 and gets a return bout with the Maroons at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Eagle Event Center.
