With the district championship behind them, the Lomega Raiders get their shot at No. 1…for the third time this season.

Lomega closed out its Class B district Saturday night with a 78-56 victory at home over Cimarron.

It keeps the Raiders in the winner’s bracket heading into this week’s regional.

They’ll play Calumet at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at home to begin the regional.

Last year’s state runner- up, Calumet is ranked atop the class and handed Lomega two of its eight losses.

The first was 57-40 on Nov. 19 at Calumet and the other was 83-47 on Dec. 14 in the finals of the Canton Invitational.

Lomega enters the regional with an 18-8 mark and having won four of its last five.

Two of those wins came in the district as the Raiders had to play an elimination game Friday. They had little resistance in a 70-16 victory against Agra.

The Raiders led 21-2 after a quarter and 43-4 at halftime.

Lance Yost led 13 different Raiders who scored with his 14 points. Ben Marsh added 10.

Cimarron had considerably more firepower in its arsenal.

The Blazers kept it close for much of the night.

Though Lomega outscored them in each of the first three quarters, it was still a 10-point game entering the fourth.

That’s when Lomega closed out with a 21-9 run.

Yost - as he did all night - came up big down the stretch.

He scored 10 points in the fourth, including two 3-pointers and a threepoint play.

For the game, the junior racked up 32 points as he made five of the Raiders’ eight treys.

Marsh added a 3-pointer in the fourth as part of his 15 points.

Jaxson Snowden added 13 for the Raiders while Chase Burton scored 12.

Lomega is a regional sub-site. The remainder of the regional will be played at Medford.

Lady Raiders rack up 91 in both district wins

The two district games for Class B’s defending state champions were nearly mirror images of one another.

Lomega cruised to the district crown over the weekend with a 91-14 victory over Agra on Friday and then a 91-22 win against Mulhall-Orlando in Saturday’s district championship.

The top-ranked team in the class will host Prue at 6 p.m. Thursday to open regional tournament play. The rest of the regional moves to Medford.

Lomega made nine 3-pointers against Agra in Friday’s elimination game.

Six of those fell in the first half - four in the first quarter.

Those were knocked down by Hadley Ott and Aliana Lawson, who made two each in the first.

Those, combined with Reagan Snowden’s 10 points in the quarter, saw Lomega stake a 28-3 lead.

It mounted from there. The Lady Raiders led 55-5 at halftime and 84-12 by the end of the third quarter.

Snowden ended her night with 24 points.

Kate Myers scored 14, including eight in the third, while Lawson added 13 and Jackie Penaran 10.

Five Lady Raiders reached double figures in Saturday’s win.

Again, it was over almost as soon as it started as Lomega led 28-6 after a quarter and 50-10 through two.

Snowden had 13 by the half and finished with 17.

Lawson scored 14, Bree Yost added 12, Paige Wheeler 11 and Myers another 10.

The Lady Raiders will enter the regional with a 23-3 record.
