Jacket baseball hits rough patch during week
Kingfisher’s losing skid was pushed to five games Thursday with a pair of defeats to open up the Shed Invitational baseball tournament.
The tournament was being played in both Kingfi sher and El Reno.
The Jackets played the opening game and dropped a 12-10 decision to Perkins- Tryon and later that evening suffered a 4-1 defeat to Ripley.
The Demons scored three runs in the top of the seventh to earn a comefrom- behind win.
The Jackets trailed 9-6 entering the bottom of the fourth inning before claiming the lead.
Kaden Cline had an RBI single and Drew Snider a two-run double as part of a four-run inning.
KHS took that 10-9 lead to the seventh.
That’s when Jayzen Surveyor ran into trouble.
The Demons tied the game up without recording a hit as there were two hit batters, a walk, an error and a fielder’s choice.
Perkins then got the goahead RBI single and added another run.
The Jackets couldn’t answer in the last half-inning. Surveyor took the loss with 5 1/3 innings of relief. He gave up 6 hits and 6 runs, 5 of them earned, while striking out four.
KHS had 11 hits on offense.
Kaden Cline led the charge as he was 3 of 5 with 3 RBIs.
Carter Stephenson and Brett Calamateo each had an RBI.
Calamateo and Collin Farrar both scored twice.
Stephenson’s leadoff triple in the bottom of the seventh gave the Jackets a ray of hope in the nightcap loss to Ripley.
However, he had one of just three hits in the game for the Jackets.
Stephenson scored on a fielder’s choice RBI groundout by Farrar, but the Jackets popped out and struck out to end the game.
Jagger Braun accounted for Kingfisher’s only other hits.
Drew Snider went 5 innings and only gave up one hit and one unearned run.
The freshman struck out four and walked four.
Braun threw the final two frames.
KHS started the week with losses to Blanchard on Monday and Tuesday.
The Lions visited Homier Field Monday and left with a 9-1 win.
The Jackets were limited to four hits.
Kingfisher also surrendered only four hits, but also gave up seven walks and had four errors.
Cooper Henley struck out 10 batters in his 6 2/3 innings. He gave up three hits and three earned runs (six overall), but walked four.
The Jackets had 15 hits Tuesday in their 16-11 loss at Blanchard.
Cline was 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
Snider had two hits and drove in three while Calamateo was 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored.
Braun had two hits and scored twice.
The Lions, however, had 17 hits, including three home runs.
The Jackets were 9-10 after the loss to Ripley.
Their district losses dropped them to 6-2 in 4A-4.
