Fairview spoiled a chance at a showdown between state title contenders.

Lomega made sure the Lady Jackets didn’t pull off two upsets in a row.

The Lady Raiders won yet another Canton Invitational title Saturday night by downing Fairview 6558 in the title tilt.

Fairview was coming off a 53-44 win over Class B’s sixth-ranked Arnett in the semifinals, but couldn’t quite keep pace with the top-ranked team in the class.

But it gave it a good shot. Lomega blitzed Fairview early and built a 25-3 lead after a quarter.

Reagan Snowden scored 11 points in the quarter.

But, Fairview took a healthy chunk out of its deficit by outscoring Lomega 26-15 in the second quarter.

Aliana Lawson kept it from being more by nailed two treys and scoring eight points in the frame.

Fairview then outscored Lomega 14-8 in the third quarter and got its deficit all the way down to five points.

But Lomega was nearly flawless at the foul line in the fourth quarter and managed to maintain its lead.

The team was 13 of 14 on free throws down the stretch and 19 of 23 for the game.

Snowden made all eight of her attempts in the fourth.

After going scoreless for the middle two frames, the freshman scored 10 in the final quarter and finished with a game-high 21 points.

Lawson and Hadley Ott each went 2 for 2 on free throws.

Lawson scored 17 and Ott 10 in the game.

Paige Wheeler added nine.

Fairview was led by Josi Hayes and Bentlee Bernard who scored 16 apiece.

Wheeler and Ott had the hottest hands in the 79-64 victory over Class B’s 20th-ranked Canton in the semifinals.

The two combined for 46 points and 14 3-pointers.

Wheeler scored 25 points, which included seven treys.

She was eventually named the tournament MVP.

Ott’s 21 were all from 3-pointers.

Both made three in the first quarter as Lomega staked a 29-14 lead.

Neither cooled off. Snowden chipped in 19 points.

Ott and Snowden joined Wheeler on the all-tournament team.

Raiders tripped up by Calumet in finals

Calumet buried 16 3-pointers Saturday to down Lomega 83-47 in the championship game of the Canton Invitational.

It was Class B’s second- ranked Calumet’s second win of the season over the Raiders.

Four different Chieftains made at least three 3-pointers, led by Hunter Mayfield’s five.

He had three in the first quarter as Calumet jumped to a 26-8 lead.

Lomega cut into it by seven in the second quarter as Lance Yost and Ben Marsh combined for three treys and 13 points.

But Calumet came back with five 3-pointers and 27 points in the third quarter to put the game away.

Mayfield led all scorers with 21.

Marsh had three 3-pointers as part of his team-high 15 for Lomega.

Yost and Jaxson Snowden scored 10 points apiece.

Marsh led the way Friday in the Raiders’ 47-43 defeat of Fairview in the semifinals.

The game was close throughout as Lomega led by four at the half and again at the end of the third quarter.

Marsh and Chase Burton both made big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help secure the win.

Marsh scored 16 points. Yost scored 10 while Burton added eight.

That trio was named to the all-tournament team.
