Mueggenborg soars past 1,500 in Okarche win
Within the last couple of weeks, Jett Mueggenborg welcomed teammates Hunter Mueggenborg and Easton Roby to the 1,000-point club, a spot he’s kept warm since last season.
Now Jett has moved to a different level in that club.
The Okarche High School junior scored 39 points and had 13 rebounds Tuesday as the short-handed Warriors stayed unbeaten with a 91-50 home win against Hennessey.
Jett Mueggenborg moved past 1,500 career points with his performance.
Early on, it appeared all of it or more may be needed.
Hennessey proved to be one of the few teams this year to be able to withstand Okarche’s early barrage.
Instead of getting buried early, it was the Eagles taking a 20-17 lead after a quarter.
But Okarche settled in and used a 24-7 run to take a commanding halftime lead that it just continued to add to in the second half.
The Warriors were without Roby, who missed the game due to sickness.
They got 13 points and seven assists from Hunter Mueggenborg and 10 points from Ethan Kirby.
But it was Jett Mueggenborg doing much of the damage.
He was 14 of 24 shooting from the field and made 10 of his 12 free throw attempts.
Hennessey’s Hagen Copeland led his team with 16 points. He was 3 of 5 from 3-point range.
Camdyn Richardson added 14 points and also led his team with six rebounds and five assists. His brother Braedyn Richardson also had five assists to go with his five points.
Beau Vinson chipped in nine points for Hennessey, which moved to 6-7 with the loss.
Okarche upped its season mark to 17-0.
