Raiders take down OBA, 82-33
Ben Marsh and Chase Burton combined for 39 points as Lomega evened its record Friday night.
The Raiders visited Enid and came home with an 82-33 victory against Oklahoma Bible Academy.
Burton had the hot start as he scored eight points in the Raiders’ 17-1 run in the first quarter.
He made two treys in that first frame and two more in the second quarter as Lomega extended its lead to 45-14.
Marsh scored nine in that second quarter and then poured in 10 points in the third as the Raiders’ lead swelled by another 15 points.
Marsh finished with 22 while Burton scored 17.
Lomega, now 3-3, also got eight points each from Lance Yost, Jaxson Snowden and Jaxx Johnson.
Lady Raiders handed first loss of season
As he watched Oklahoma Bible Academy struggle to beat Okarche on Thursday night, Lomega girls coach Kevin Lewallen wasn’t exactly happy.
“This is the worst thing that can happen to us,” he said.
Lewallen’s Lady Raiders - many of whom were in the stands and watching - were set to play OBA the next night.
They were witnessing OBA’s seven-point victory over a team they beat by 32 points.
“No matter how much I tell them that OBA is a really good team, they’re not going to believe me until they get out there on the court with them,” Lewallen said.
He was right. Class 2A’s eighth-ranked OBA got out to an early lead Friday and rode it to a 50-30 victory over Class B No. 1 Lomega.
It was the Lady Raiders’ first loss of the season and their lowest point total by 41 points.
“They were really, really physical with us and we didn’t respond well,” Lewallen said. “I tried to tell them, but sometimes you just have to experience it.”
Three different OBA players scored at least four points as OBA got out to a 19-12 lead in the first quarter.
Lomega couldn’t hit double digits in a quarter again.
Kami Jenkins scored 13 to lead three Lady Trojans in double figures.
Reagan Snowden and Paige Wheeler scored 10 apiece for Lomega while Aliana Lawson contributed eight.
