Look no further than the individual honors for last weekend’s Mustang Stampede to see it was a total team effort for the Dover boys basketball team.

All five starters earned all-tournament honors after Dover downed Crescent 51-41 in the championship game Saturday night at Pioneer-Pleasant Vale High School.

“Everyone played their role, whether it was on offense or defense, throughout the tournament,” said coach Jared Reese after his team won its eighth straight game.

He added that senior Lucas Conrady, who was named tournament MVP, encapsulated that the most.

Conrady scored nine points in the title game, but Reese said his value goes well beyond points.

“It’s not just about scoring,” he said. “Lucas played great defense for three days, he passed it well, played with tons of energy and he’s the best leader you can ask for.”

Conrady had four points in the first quarter as Dover built a 17-7 lead that Crescent could never get rid of.

It was 39-25 entering the fourth quarter when Crescent finally heated up.

Chap Lee made three 3-pointers as the Tigers put 16 points on the board.

But Dover made 6 of 11 free throws down the stretch, just enough to maintain their double-digit advantage.

Jonah Pendergraft scored 18 points to lead the Longhorns while Casen Buck scored 14.

Carter Kitchens scored six and Randy Vitalis two. They all joined Conrady on the all-tournament team.

Pendergraft scored 20 points in Friday’s 66-20 semifinal win over Medford.

He had 15 points by halftime. Buck scored all 13 of his points in the first half.

Marco Sotelo added 10 points for the Longhorns in that win.

Lady Longhorns 3rd

Dover’s girls bounced back from a semifinal defeat to down Crescent 4933 Saturday in the third place game of the Mustang Stampede.

Kynli Boeckman scored 15 points on her way to earning all-tournament team honors.

She was one of five Lady Longhorns to score in the first quarter as they got out to a 16-9 lead. It grew to 25-14 by half.

Boeckman helped maintain it in the fourth with seven of her points.

She was joined on the all-tournament team by Rylee Buck and Joi Caldwell.

Buck added 11 points while Caldwell scored eight.

Medford knocked Dover into the consolation bracket with a 50-46 victory over the Lady Longhorns Friday.

Dover led 39-38 after three quarters, but Medford closed with a 12-7 run.

Kenna Kilian scored 19 to pace the Lady Cardinals.

Boeckman led Dover with 14 while Buck scored 12 and Ashley Gamez 11.
