It was an almost perfect day for golf and the scores backed it up.

Ten golfers shot under- par and the tournament scoring record went down Wednesday at the Kingfi sher Large School Boys Invitational.

Ben Lathrop of Heritage Hall shot an 8-under-par 62 to capture medalist honors.

His score was four strokes better than Bethany’s Jackson Payne and it also toppled the previous low round of 63, shot by Kingfisher’s Mason Overstreet in 2015. Three of those sub-par rounds belonged to Plainview, which was the team champ.

The Indians’ Hudson Hobbs and Jace Chaney both shot 67s. Hobbs took third individually on a scorecard tie-breaker and Chaney was fourth.

Boston Neher added a 69 as Plainview turned in a 270 using the Maxwell scoring system (the top four scores on each hole counts toward the team score).

Plainview topped Crossings Christian by four strokes.

Bethany was the third place team with its 282.

Individually, Elgin’s Rhett Ballou was fifth with his 68.

Five different players shot a 1-under 69, including Kingfisher’s Cale Reagan.

The junior overcame two bogeys and a double- bogey with five birdies, including three straight to start the back-nine.

Also for Kingfisher, Myles Harrison shot a 72, tying him for 13th out of 100 golfers.

Paytun Burnham turned in a 74, Luciano Orozco a 79 and Ryan Sanders an 80.

The Jackets shot a 286, good for fifth place as a team and one stroke behind Heritage Hall.

Playing as an individual, Matthew Mecklenburg shot a 79 for KHS.

Other golfers shooting under-par (all with 69s) were Wyatt Geissler of Bethany, Harper Nance of Crossings and Jett Terry of Sulphur.

Two more - Koda Chavez of Cushing and William Bishop of Crossings - were even-par for the day.

Overstreet was a junior when he set the tournament record that stood for a decade. He went on to win the individual state championship that season, the only golfer to do so for the KHS boys.

Overstreet shot a 64 in winning the tournament as a senior and went on to a career at the University of Arkansas that included being the NCAA individual runner-up as a freshman in 2017.
