TWICE AS NICE
Runaway win at Elk City doubles up Jackets’ win total from last season
Kingfisher will head to the playoffs with twice as many wins as it earned all of last season.
The Jackets hit that mark last Friday when they wrapped up their regular season with their most lopsided victory against a varsity squad.
They downed Elk City 69-31 to give themselves a 14-9 record.

Elk City provided the opportunity for KHS to have a runaway win. The Elks entered the game with just two victories.
That was the case a couple weeks prior when the Jackets visited Casady, but that turned into a game that went down to the wire.
History didn’t repeat itself out west.
The Jackets were up nine and steadily built their lead to 19 points entering the fourth.
With everyone getting playing time, the Jackets outscored the Elks 20-1 in the fourth quarter.
That’s when Jackson Willbanks caught fire for KHS.
The junior notched 11 of his team-high 13 points during the dominant stretch.
He was one of three Jackets in double figures.
Jhett Birdwell made four 3-pointers for his 12 points. He also grabbed a game-high eight rebounds and handed out four assists.
Cash Laird also notched 12 points and dished four assists.
Hayes White scored nine, but also added six assists and six rebounds.
The Jackets shot 50 percent overall and held Elk City to 28.2 percent shooting. Kingfisher also had 19 total assists against just three turnovers.
Elk City’s 17 turnovers led to 21 Jacket points.
