KHS tennis players collect hardware
William Shaver had a solid two days for the Kingfisher High School tennis team. Shaver (far right, bottom pic) placed third Wednesday in the No. 1 singles bracket of the Elk City Tournament which was held at the Oklahoma City Tennis Center. The KHS junior did even better on Thursday. The KHS teams took part in the Route 66 Tennis Tournament at Clinton and this time Shaver brought home the gold medal after winning the No. 1 singles bracket. He wasn’t the only Yellowjacket having success. The No. 1 doubles team of Coleman Gilles and Wyatt Long (pictured left in bottom photo) were the runner-up in their bracket on Wednesday. Then the KHS girls finished as the team runner-up Thursday in Clinton. The No. 1 doubles team of Jaelin Cortes and Kadyn Daugherty took second in their bracket as did the No. 2 doubles team of Sydney Burk and Giulia Scano. Emiley Watkins was the runner-up in No. 2 singles while senior Mia Franco took fourth in No. 1 singles. Team members pictured from left are Burk, Scano, Franco, Watkins, Daugherty and Cortes.
