Gump stumps Fairview
Carson Gump could hardly miss and the Cashion Wildcats didn’t miss their chance to exact some revenge.
Gump produced a double-double Tuesday as 11th-ranked Cashion downed No. 18 Fairview 69-55 as the Wildcats celebrated “Senior Night.”
Fairview beat Cashion 58-54 on the same court about 10 days prior when the two played for third place in the Cashion County Line Tournament.
But this time, Gump, one of the seniors recognized prior to the night’s games, didn’t allow a repeat performance.
He scored 25 points and grabbed 11 rebounds and was a big part of a dominant first half.
Cashion got out to a 22-10 lead and pushed it to 44-23 by halftime.
Gump was 10 of 11 from the field and made all five of his free throw attempts.
Parker Mitchell went 3 of 6 from 3-point range and scored 17 points.
Cashion shot 50 percent for the game while holding Fairview to 34 percent shooting. That included the Yellowjackets going 4 of 25 (16 percent) from 3-point range.
The win improved Cashion to 17-6 with two regular season games remaining.
