Lady Jackets continue win streak
McGuinness no match on homecoming night
A dominant performance highlighted Kingfisher basketball’s homecoming night.
It also featured a dose of bad luck.
KHS won for the 11th straight time Tuesday, thumping visiting Bishop McGuinness 64-33.
The Lady Jackets led from the tip, were sharp offensively and held the Irish to 28 percent shooting.
Prior to the game, senior Peyton Walker was crowned homecoming queen.
Among those in the homecoming court was fellow senior Addy Matthews, who knocked down her second trey early in the second quarter to give her 10 points in the game.
Then the bad luck hit. Trying to defend a layup, Matthews rolled her ankle and had to be helped off the floor. She returned to the KHS bench before halftime, but on crutches.
Further tests showed no breaks, but Matthews is expected to be out at least a week.
Without her, a number of Lady Jackets helped pick up some scoring slack.
Jancee Matthews came off the bench to score a pair of buckets in the second quarter as Kingfisher took a 38-14 halftime lead.
Walker scored five in the second and added another trey in the third quarter as Kingfisher continued to build on its lead.
All the while, Raegan Snider was dominating the Irish in the post.
The junior scored on Kingfisher’s first possession and kept rolling.
She had eight in the first quarter and 13 points by halftime.
Snider ended her night with 19 points and four rebounds.
Outside of her, Kingfisher spread out its wealth.
Talor Mecklenburg scored nine points.
Walker and Abbie Myers had eight apiece.
Myers nearly pulled off a double-double as she grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
Walker added six steals and four assists.
The win pushed Kingfi sher’s record to 17-4 with two games remaining in the regular season.
