Plenty left in the tank
Hennessey pulls away from Cashion in TRC matchup for 5th win in 6 days
Brady Page wasn’t sure what his team had left in the tank.
Turns out it was plenty. Hennessey downed Cashion 62-38 on Tuesday night to keep its Three Rivers Conference regular- season record unblemished.
It was the Eagles’ fifth game in six days - all victories - as the fifth-ranked team in Class 2A improved to 16-2 overall and 4-0 in conference games.
“We’re pretty tired right now, so I’m not sure what this will look like,” said Page prior to the Cashion game.
After winning the Yale Tournament last weekend, Hennessey hosted Chisholm on Monday and turned away the stubborn Longhorns, 53-48.
Jael Torres, James Sims and Camdyn Richardson combined for all 20 of Hennessey’s points in the fourth quarter.
They were needed to offset Aiden Burd, who caught fire with four 3-pointers and 16 points in the quarter.
Burd scored 29 overall, but was the only Longhorn in double figures.
Torres had nine points in the fourth and 23 for the game.
Sims finished with 14 and Richardson scored 10.
It didn’t come down to the fourth on Tuesday.
Up a point after the quarter, Hennessey went on a 17-6 run in the second, holding Cashion without a field goal in the meantime.
Five different Eagles scored in the quarter, led by six from Sims and five from Richardson.
Torres picked up steam with nine in the third.
He was one of three Eagles to make 3-pointers as the lead increased to 20 points.
Cashion made seven 3-pointers in the game, but it took 29 attempts. The Wildcats were just 3 of 10 inside the arc.
The Wildcats were led by Nathan Nabavi’s 11 points.
Hennessey’s balanced attack saw Sims and Torres score 14 apiece. They combined for 16 boards, led by Torres’ nine.
Richardson and Hunter Weber scored 13 each. Richardson had four of Hennessey’s 11 steals.
Cashion fell to 7-8 with its third straight loss. The Wildcats are 1-1 in conference games.
